Additional Awards Issued to Waitlisted Students
The Comptroller’s office has awarded additional Texas Education Freedom Accounts™ (TEFA) to students who were initially placed on the waitlist.
- 3,317 waitlisted students have been awarded using funding that was made available when students opted out or selected “homeschool/other,” which reduced their funding amount to $2,000. All these newly awarded students were assigned to priority tier 2, meaning their applications showed household incomes at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.
- An additional 294 students have been awarded accounts based on special education information that was confirmed on file with the Texas education agency, plus 183 siblings of these students.
Adding these students to the nearly 96,000 previously awarded means that slightly fewer than 100,000 students have been awarded TEFA so far. Of those, approximately 1,400 have opted out of the program, leaving just over 98,000 active awards.
We will continue to maintain a dynamic waitlist. More students will receive awards as families opt out and appeals get resolved.
Families will receive updates by email, by text message and through the program portal if their status changes.
