Updated Demographic Information on TEFA Participation

With more than 100,000 students awarded Texas Education Freedom Accounts, participation reflects the prioritization framework created by the Legislature, which sought to ensure that students with greater educational needs were at the front of the line for funding.

• More than one in four awarded students has a documented disability.
• Approximately four in five awarded students has a household income below 200% of the federal poverty level ($66,000 per year for a family of four).
  

• Younger students are more likely to apply for the program than older students.

A new breakdown by district and grade level shows pre-K, kindergarten and first-grade students are more likely to apply for Education Freedom Accounts than middle and high school students.

These numbers will continue to shift before school starts, as more students are taken off the waitlist. The Comptroller’s office will continue to publish updated demographic information on participating students.
